Since 2016, the Brookdale Family Care Centers at New Lots and Eastern Parkway have offered a unique program within pediatrics called HealthySteps. This program helps to ensure that parents and their babies get off to a strong start in life.
During pediatric well visits from birth through 5 years, babies are seen by a HealthySteps specialist in addition to their pediatrician. Healthy Steps specialists are specially trained experts in child development and behavior, and have experience working with infants, toddlers, parents and healthcare professionals.
To support the health and development of all babies and families, HealthySteps offers:

HealthySteps is funded by generous grants from the Child Welfare Fund, the Edith Glick Shoolman Children’s Foundation, the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation, and New York State-Office of Mental Health
The HealthySteps program at Brookdale is a unique, evidence-based pediatric primary care program committed to healthy early childhood development and effective parenting so that all children are ready for kindergarten and success in life.
HealthySteps is already transforming the promise of pediatric primary care by integrating a child development specialist into the primary care team. It offers screening, advice, and referrals that provide families the knowledge, support and resources they need to foster a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral development.
Over the last two years, HealthySteps has updated its program model for even greater impact by offering more comprehensive universal screening for child and family needs – including social determinants of health, social-emotional development and more. The HealthySteps growth plan now aims to reach over 1 million children ages 0-3 annually by 2032, focusing on those most at-risk.
Recognizing the success to date and the potential for national impact, Blue Meridian Partners is investing $39 million in the first phase of HealthySteps’ long-term growth plan. This plan aims to double the number of families and young children served over the next five years and ultimately aims to reach over 1 million children by 2032, focusing on those most at-risk. The organization is one of several funders committed to ensuring the future growth and success of HealthySteps and the well-being of very young children and their families.
